With nearly 200 design and visual arts courses, ArtCenter Extension (ACX) offers a world of possibilities. Our program is designed for busy adults, with courses held during the day, in the evenings and on weekends. Our instructors are practicing artists and designers who understand how to maintain a competitive edge in the creative fields. About 5,000 people attended a week’s worth of graduation activities, ending with conferring degrees in majors such as film, fine art, graphic design and photography. ArtCenter built its reputation as a vocational school, preparing returning G.I.s for work in the commercial arts fields[5] and began awarding degrees in 1949. In recognition of Art Center's commitment to addressing social and humanitarian issues through design, 2003 saw ArtCenter become the first design college to ever receive NGO (non-governmental organization) status by the United Nations.

At that time, the college appointed Michael Maltzan Architecture as its partner in planning academic spaces and expansion of its educational resources. With this agreement still intact, actual renovation of the former USPS building was completed by Darin Johnstone Architecture in 2014. Behind towering iron gates on expansive grounds spanning over an acre, this home exudes the charm of a classic storybook estate. Its exterior, adorned with brick and a captivating two-story leaded glass window, evokes a romantic, old-world ambiance. A generously sized primary bedroom upstairs boasts a fireplace, a sitting area and panoramic northwest mountain views from its balcony. Three more bedrooms, each with its own bath, complete the second floor, while the attic houses three bedrooms, bathrooms and unique cedar-lined walk-in rooms.

The designer established two seating areas within the space, including a cozy gathering spot with chaise longues that flank the original carved marble fireplace. The room’s coffered ceilings were enhanced with a faux-wood decorative painting by Jhon Ardilla. Each designer reshaped a space and contributed to a collective narrative of rejuvenation and homage to the manor’s storied past. The Pasadena Showcase House of Design thus stands as a beacon of community support and design excellence, inviting tens of thousands of visitors to explore and be inspired by the convergence of past and future, tradition and innovation.
Our faculty of more than 450 practicing artists and designers help students build the skills they need to strengthen their creative voice. ArtCenter College of Design offers a new model for art and design education in the 21st century. Our visionary approach is based on the College’s conservatory-like approach to teaching and learning; a desire for rich, intercultural and transdisciplinary dialogue; and a mandate to provide students innovative learning and making spaces. “I really feel like the dining room is a forgotten room,” says the designer, who set out to prove how vital the space is to a home. The room is anchored by a Riva 1920 table made with the wood of a 50,000-year-old Kauri tree, which Levine surrounded with seating for 12. Another seating area with views of the garden was designed for more intimate dining, games, or meetings, and it’s illuminated by a Murano glass chandelier.
ArtCenter Exhibitions offers programming that fosters intercultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue.

The college logo is an orange circle, also known as the ArtCenter "Dot," which has been a part of the school's identity since its inception by founder Tink Adams[1] and a small number of colleagues. So far, the center has been in the works for six years, and it is currently employing a long-term land lease with the city on the site where it will be built, right where the current amphitheater is. The next six months will involve receiving feedback from city officials any other people or groups who could be impacted by the center.

The landmark mansion was built in 1902 by architect Joseph J. Blick for Gertrude Potter Daniels, who paid $15,000 for the shingle-style home. In 1905, Susanna Bransford Emery-Holmes—known as the Silver Queen thanks to the source of her late husband’s fortune—purchased the home and soon made it her own. In 1922, she spent $37,000 to have the Postle Company of Los Angeles, who also built the Pasadena Playhouse, remodel it into an English Tudor Revival–style mansion, giving it the regal exterior that remains today. The Potter Daniels Manor is likely recognizable to many as a backdrop for numerous films, television shows and advertisements over the years. ArtCenter students develop the exceptional craftsmanship, technique and critical awareness fundamental to any thriving creative practice. Apply new ideas from design, science, technology and culture to impact social issues in a global context.
